Hommel takes
Utah series opener
Justin Hommel made the trip from
California to Salt Lake City a productive one as
he scored his second victory of the year in the
joint Utah-California Focus series event on
Saturday night. The race was the season opener
for the Utah cars and was the 5th event of the
year for the California participants. Starting
on the outside of the front row, Hommel passed
polesitter Tim Savage on the 2nd lap and was
never challenged for the remaining 29 laps. the
#97 Bullet chassis prepared by Hommel's father
and Ace Noffsinger cruised to a 4 car length
victory despite 3 mid race restarts. Utah series
regulars Billy Cox, Jeff Kelley, Chuck Groat and
Kipp Posey rounded out the top 5.
Kipp Posey has made the official
track record his personal property, lowering his
record for the third time by turning a
blistering 15.250 lap for a speed of 88.525.
Posey has been been the recipient of the
AutoTrader Fast Qualifier Trophy in 4 of the
last 5 events at RMR.
Heat race wins were captured by
California's Ian Millie in his family owned #81
and Brendan Langlois in the Ron Sutton Winner's
Circle #42.
